Neneh Cherry joins Field Day 2014 line-up

The Eighties singer-songwriter will join Metronomy and Pixies on the bill

Eighties icon Neneh Cherry has been announced as the latest addition to Field Day 2014’s line-up, ahead of the June festival in East London’s Victoria Park.

The Swedish singer-songwriter released her solo album, Blank Project, on Monday after a long musical absence of two decades.

She is praised for paving the way for future female singers and voiced her opinions on feminism to The Observer earlier this week: "Sure it’s really hip to call yourself a feminist at the moment but there’s another side to it that’s more militant, more genuine.

"I think that there’s room for everybody in there, whether you want to wear a G-string or, you know, a f**king sack!"

Cherry joins the likes of electro quartet Metronomy, US alternative rock group Pixies and English band The Horrors for the popular summer weekend.

SBTRKT, Blood Orange (also known as Dev Hynes or Lightspeed Champion), psychedelic newcomers Temples, grunge duo Drenge and London DJ Erol Alkan are also confirmed to perform alongside The Temper Trap, Warpaint, Ghostpoet, Huw Stephens, Sky Ferreira and more.

For the first time since Field Day launched in 2007, it will run over two days instead of one. Metronomy will top the bill on Saturday 7 June before Pixies close the festival on the Sunday.

Early bird ticket sales for Field Day closed in January but tickets are still available online. Prices range from £49.50 for the Saturday and £43 for the Sunday to £78 for the whole weekend. Tickets can also be bought in person from Rough Trade East record store.
