Hilaria Baldwin responds to accusations that she has been pretending to be Spanish

Alec Baldwin has quit Twitter after a controversy surrounding his wife, Hilaria.

In December, many people accused Baldwin’s wife of pretending to have Spanish origins, scrutinising her accent in various videos and cross-referencing sources listing her birthplace and listed biography.

The yoga instructor, podcast co-host and lifestyle influencer spoke to The New York Times days after her background became a topic of public discussion, and denied the claims.

“There is not something I’m doing wrong, and I think there is a difference between hiding and creating a boundary,” she said.

Prior to the interview, she sought to address the situation in an Instagram video, in which she stated that she was “born in Boston and grew up spending time with my family between Massachusetts and Spain”.

Now, Baldwin, who previously defended Hilaria, has decided to step away from social media in response to the comments he’s received about the matter.

“Twitter is like a party where everyone is screaming. Not much of a party,” he wrote, adding: “Goodbye for now.”
