Batman v Superman: Jeremy Irons finally responds to those bad reviews, reveals when The Batman starts filming

'The audience liked it, which in the end is all that matters'

Ever since Batman v Superman hit cinemas earlier this year, those associated with the project have constantly been asked about their reaction to the negative reviews.

One such interview led to the Sad Ben Affleck meme: only weeks later would he actually give a verbal response. Director Zack Snyder, meanwhile, spoke about how the negativity took him off guard, telling one publication: “When Batman v Superman came out, I was like, ‘Wow, okay, oof’.”

Now, Jeremy Irons - who plays Batman’s butler, Alfred - has spoken about the critics viewpoint, telling Variety: “I was very pleased by the numbers. Zack seems to get a hard time from the press, which is strange. I don’t know if it has to do with the sort of secrecy that surrounds the making of it all. But the audience liked it, which in the end is all that matters.”

Very well said, Mr. Irons. In the same interview, the esteemed actor was asked whether big-budget projects were as rewarding as smaller ones, saying: “Less so, because they’re so slow. There’s a lot of waiting around and then a huge amount of publicity. One spends 70% of the time doing publicity, 10% of the time filming, and 20% of the time waiting.”

On the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed spin-off, The Batman, Iron revealed it will begin filming next summer: “Ben’s going to make a Batman film next summer. He promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that.”

Meanwhile, following the DVD release of Batman v Superman, an easter egg was spotted, six months after initial release.
