Batman v Superman R-rated trailer makes it actually look pretty decent

There's more talk, more action and Jena Malone

Unless you've been living under a slab of krypton for the past few months, you're probably well aware of the critical mauling dished out to Batman v Superman.

The superhero mashup, which was released back in March, wasn't received warmly by critics at all and, while performing extremely well at the box office, the Man of Steel sequel wasn't quite the runaway success DC was hoping for.

Alarm bells began ringing when Zack Snyder expressed plans to make an R-rated director's cut and, sure enough, one of the main issues of the finished product (among a few things) included the dodgy pacing; even actor Jeremy Irons - who plays Bruce Wayne's trusted butler Alfred Pennyworth - described the film as 'muddled and overstuffed.'

Well, we won't know if the R-rated director's cut is an improvement for another few weeks yet - however, if the trailer's anything to go by, it seems Snyder may have just pulled it out the bag.

There's new footage to be seen, including snippets of action showing moments that were mentioned in (then cut out of ) the theatrical release, as well as the inclusion of Jena Malone's Barbara Gordon who was unceremoniously chopped from the finished product.

Billed the 'Ultimate' cut, the film's running time has been extended from an already lengthy two hours 33 minutes to over three hours. As if that wasn't enough, the Blu-ray will feature over two hours worth of bonus features.

Perhaps then Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will find fan appreciation in its extended cut? Still, considering Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor is still in it, perhaps not.
