Ben Stiller has been tipped to star in Alan Ball's new drama I Am Chippendales about the famous male dance club.

Based on the real-life story of Paul Snider and Somen 'Steve' Banerjee, the film script will be adapted from Rodney Sheldon's book.

Stiller is in talks to play former choreographer Nick DeNoia, who helped create the 1980s stripper act and push it out worldwide, Variety reports.

The movie will focus on the founding and expansion of Chippendales by Snider and Banerjee, the latter of whom was found dead in prison in 1994 where he was serving time for racketeering, attempted arson and hiring a hitman to murder DeNoia.

Oscar-winning Ball will also be producing, along with Permut Presentations and Sentinel Pictures.

Stiller, 48, last appeared in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and is currently working on Night at the Museum 3 and The Penguins of Madagascar.

It was recently announced that the US actor would be reprising his role as Derek Zoolander in Justin Theroux's Zoolander 2, but details remain unknown. Stiller said in December 2013 that the project was "on hold".
