Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds responds to Oscar nominations snub

Following Golden Globe nominations and recognition by the Producers and Directors Guild of America, it seemed like the awards campaign for Deadpool was likely to culminate in a Best Picture Oscar nomination.

This failed to happen; in fact, Deadpool scored a grand total of zero nominations (for context, Suicide Squad got one).

Ryan Reynolds - who was Golden Globe-nominated for his madcap portrayal of Wade Wilson in the smash hit X-Men spinoff - has responded to the snub in similar jest to how his onscreen counterpart would have. Only less sweary.

This isn't the end of the Deadpool story for Reynolds; he's hard at work producing the sequel which will be directed by John Wick's David Leitch who replaces original director Tim Miller.

If there was an Oscar for movie marketing, it would have undoubtedly gone to Reynolds who was a strong force behind the global success of Deadpool.

If the film had been nominated in the Best Picture category, it would have been the first superhero film to do so - something Reynolds himself believes is a fate reserved for Hugh Jackman's upcoming final Wolverine tale Logan which is released in February.

This year's Best Picture nominees include Arrival, Hell or High Water, Manchester by the Sea, Moonlight and La La Land which has matched the nominations record held by All About Eve and Titanic.
