At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Your support makes all the difference.Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold has called for Hollywood to boycott Fox after pro-Trump protestors mobbed Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
Posting to Twitter, Mangold urged those in the creative industry to "cancel appearances on Fox" and keep programing ads off of the US channel, which is owned by the famously conservative Murdoch family.
"Watching lawlessness in our capitol – thugs supporting a coup – & deeply saddened. The Murdochs have inflicted so much racism, sexism, virulent lies & damage to our nation. Fellow content makers, we must cancel appearances on Fox & use our power to keep ads 4 our shows off Fox."
The director also called out Fox News directly, writing that it "created this president and supports [Trump’s] enablers".
"Many of us in media profess enlightenment but can't bring ourselves to call out villainy among us," he continued, quote-tweeting fellow director Judd Apatow. "If we don't damn the seditious network of Tucker, Sean, Dobbs, etc, if we can't deny them our $, then we're cowards or worse. Fox must be left w/ nothing but 'My Pillow' & catheters."
For his part, the Knocked Up director also called out Fox News, accusing the organisation of being partially at fault for "creat[ing] all of this].
"Sure people in the administration will quit. Who will show some honor and quit working for @FoxNews? Who will stop working for Lachlan Murdoch and the people who monetize division, racism, corruption, bad covid information which kills and treason? They helped create all of this."
Mangold also acknowledged his past partnerships with with Fox, writing in a separate tweet, "I regret that films I made in the past made money for the Murdochs."
