The Equalizer 2 - trailer

"Yeah, I'm thinking I'm back."

Not to steal a quote from an entirely different franchise (John Wick, if you're wondering), but there's no other way to describe the casual, epic quality in which Denzel Washington has returned to the action game.

He's back as Robert McCall, the former CIA black-ops operative turned vigilante, for The Equalizer 2.

It marks the actor's first sequel, with Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Magnificent Seven) also sat once more in the director's chair.

There a very few plot details so far, though the trailer does suggest we'll be having to say farewell to Melissa Leo's Susan Plummer. The film also stars Ashton Sanders, Pedro Pascal, Sakina Jaffrey, and Melissa Leo.

Though the first film, released in 2014, arrived to fairly mixed reviews, it swiftly proved a major commercial success, with a worldwide box office gross of over $192 million.

The Equalizer 2 hits UK cinemas 17 August.
