Because there weren’t enough superhero films in development at the moment, Fox has announced two new mysterious Marvel films based in their X-Men universe.

One of the untitled films has been scheduled for 2 November 2018, putting it in contention with Disney’s live-adaptation of Mulan, while the other will reach cinemas 14 February 2019.

Before the announcement, fans were aware of another untitled Marvel film set for 12 January 2018: many believe it to be Deadpool 2’s release date.

What could the other two untitled Marvel films be? Already, we know a third Deadpool film is in the works, but likely won’t reach cinemas until 2020. Perhaps the much delayed Gambit spin-off? Or widely anticipated film The New Mutants, reportedly starring Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Magik? How about a sequel to FanFourStick? Probably not.

Meanwhile, Fox also revealed Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant, would be moving up from a 4 August release to 19 May. The sequel to the first Kingsman film, The Golden Circle, was pushed back to 6 October.

A project from James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment was also put in place for 21 December 2018. The release date is widely believed to be for Avatar 2, the first film having been released the same week in 2009.
