Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig and Kate McKinnon began filming the upcoming all-female Ghostbusters reboot yesterday and luckily for fans, some photos have already emerged from the Boston set.

Director Paul Feig is remaking the 1984 classic about a group of unemployed parapsychology professors who launch their own spirit extermination service and by the look of his actresses' costumes alone, fans are in for plenty of laughs.

McCarthy wears thick-rimmed glasses and is seen carrying the possible new 'Ghost Trap' while McKinnon runs alongside her in paint-splattered dungarees and some seriously retro sunglasses. In a different scene, Wiig looks much more sophisticated in her teacher's plaid skirt and blazer get-up.

Further details on their roles remain vague, and fourth ghostbuster Leslie Jones has not yet been spotted, meaning we're still waiting for the first look at them all together in character.

Reports suggest Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of authors who write a book about ghosts being real. A few years later, Wiig has a job at Columbia University but is "laughed out of academia" when the book resurfaces. When ghosts invade Manhattan, Wiig reunites with McCarthy and teams up with McKinnon and Jones to "get some sweet revenge and save the world".

Feig has not ruled out cameos from the original cast, telling People that they are "all happy about it". "Who knows, I'd love it but we're figuring it out," he said. "We want to make it our own but also give nods to the fans of the movies."

Another strong rumour is that ghost Slimer will be making his comeback, but that is sadly unconfirmed at this stage. What we do know is that Chris Hemsworth will be playing the receptionist - what more could you ask for?

The currently untitled new Ghostbusters reaches UK cinemas in July 2016.
