Golden Globes 2026 nominations live: Sydney Sweeney snubbed for best actress while Wicked: For Good misses best picture nom
‘One Battle After Another’ leads pack with nine nominations
The nominations for the 2026 Golden Globes were announced today, kicking off this awards season by leaving some hot topic names out of the race.
Sydney Sweeney was notably shut out from any of the acting nominations this year, even though her performance as boxer Christy Martin in Christy received a standing ovation at the Toronto Film Festival. However, Sweeney’s acting was overshadowed by her divisive American Eagles ad that polarized American audiences, and the biopic bombed at the box office.
On the other hand,Wicked: For Good shattered box office records but was also snubbed in the nominations. The popular sequel was left out of this year’s best musical or comedy category — in fact, no musicals were nominated at all in the category, though Blue Moon nostalgically follows a Broadway legend. Despite Wicked: For Good being left out of the best picture race, the movie was nominated for cinematic and box office achievement. Plus, the movie landed two nods for best acting and two nods for the film’s two original songs.
Films such as One Battle After Another, Marty Supreme, and Sinners were shortlisted this year, with Hollywood heavyweights such as Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio vying for individual prizes.
Hailed as one of the decade’s best films, One Battle has been tipped for awards success, with stars DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, and Sean Penn all nominated.
Sentimental Value, directed by Joaquin Trier, is another frontrunner with eight nods. Several blockbusters are also in the running, including Avatar: Fire & Ash, and Wicked: For Good.
In the TV categories, leaders included Apple TV’s Severance, Emmy-winning medical drama The Pitt, and hit comedy Hacks.
The nomination ceremony began at 8:15 a.m. ET with Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall presenting, though Wayans caught some flack online for mispronouncing the names of nominees including Ayo Edebiri and Renate Reinsve. The Golden Globes ceremony itself will take place in Los Angeles on January 11.

Ariana Grande reacts to second consecutive nomination
Ariana Grande is nominated for her role as Glinda in Wicked: For Good, making her second consecutive nomination for the performance.
“It is definitely just as exciting [as last year’s nomination] and kind of blindsiding,” Grande told The Hollywood Reporter.
“You don’t expect something like this, let alone [for it] to happen twice for the same role. So I’m just deeply honored. I’m just really moved by it.”

No nominations for Joe Rogan
This year’s Golden Globe category for best podcast marks the first nominations for an audio series at the Hollywood awards show.
The Best Podcast award will be presented to one of the 25 most listened-to podcasts, the Globes announced earlier this year.
However, the top podcast in the country — right-wing show The Joe Rogan Experience — was not nominated in the category.
Armchair Expert with Dax Shephard, Call Her Daddy, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, The Mel Robbins Podcast, SmartLess and NPR’s Up First were all nominated for the award.
All quiet on the Timmy front
Timothée Chalamet has yet to post on Instagram about his best actor nomination for Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme.
The actor has been undeniably eager to promote the movie on his social media platforms so far. His passionate campaign has ranged from Instagram livestreams of a group of actors wearing giant ping pong balls on their heads to A-listers wearing Marty Supreme jackets to Chalamet leaking footage of a possibly staged marketing meeting where he suggested painting the Eiffel Tower orange.
The Independent’s Katie Rosseinsky described Chalamet’s all-in approach as his “offbeat charm offensive.” It’s nearly impossible not to root for the actor as he leaves it all on the floor in “pursuit of greatness,” as he said in an acceptance speech earlier this year.

Michael B. Jordan reacts to first-ever Golden Globe nom
Michael B. Jordan was nominated for his performance as twins Smoke and Stack in this year’s hit movie Sinners, marking his first ever Globes nomination. This is what he had to say about it.
Thank you, Golden Globes, and congrats to my SINNERS family! This was by far my most challenging and rewarding performance— bringing to life (and death) two distinct brothers in SINNERS. We are only here because of the brilliance and relentless fearlessness of Ryan Coogler. A decade after we first started working together, Coogler once again pushed us to unlock another level together. This film, built upon layers of complexities, taps into all of our histories. It’s a movie about love and loss, and asks us — what is the price of freedom? By recognizing this film, you are honoring our legacy and the legacy of an industry built on bold, original storytelling. THANK YOU.
Teyana Taylor reacts: 'Happy early birthday to me'
Teyana Taylor has dropped an emoji-filled reaction to her best actress nomination for her performance as Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another.
“Happy early birthday to meeeeeeeeeeeee! WOWWWWW! 9GG OBAA NOMMMMMMSSSSSSS?!!!!!” said Taylor (who turns 35 on December 10).
“Thank you to the Golden Globes for this honor that has left me speechless and teary eyed. I’ve dreamed of this for so long, but God’s timing… whew, it hits different. This morning’s call felt like divine confirmation that every step, every lesson, every battle had purpose.
“Huge congratulations to every soul who touched ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. The cast, the crew, the creatives, the entire village that made this story come alive. And most importantly to the legendary PTA… thank you for your vision, trust, and brilliance. My gratitude is endless. We love you! CONGRATS.”
Weapons star Amy Madigan was among the nominees too; this was her reaction to the news.
I am incredibly moved to be recognized by the Golden Globes today for my work as “Aunt Gladys” in Zach Cregger’s film WEAPONS, and for also recognizing the film in the Box Office & Cinematic Achievement category. To receive this recognition is a true testament to Zach’s original vision, and the work of a truly remarkable filmmaking team, including Leo Satkovich, Jason Collins, and Melizah Wheat who helped bring the look of “Gladys” to life, along with our costume designer Trish Summerville. This was a team effort, and I couldn’t have done it without them. The last few months have been overwhelming seeing audiences, critics and press alike respond to the film in such a positive way. Seeing everyone dressed up as “Gladys” has been a blast! I’d love to give a shout out to all the other women in this category – Emily, Elle, Ariana, Inga and Teyana. They truly represent what women in film are all about.
Nice to see Jafar Panahi among the nominees. The Independent spoke to the Iranian director recently, days before he was sentenced to prison.

This is Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. He was sentenced to jail after this interview
As predicted, One Battle After Another is the frontrunner going into this awards season, and received nine nominations today!
