He was drawn to the project by the strength of the script

Harrison Ford is one of the very few people who have already seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens (JJ Abrams only finished it last week), and he’s served up a few words on it during an interview with Good Morning America.

“It’s a wonderful movie,” he said. “It’s got great production values. It’s a real big movie and I was delighted to see it.”

I mean, he was hardly going to say “it’s trash, see anything except this movie”, but his glowing review is encouraging nonetheless.

He went on to say that it was the sequel’s “really good script” that persuaded him to reprise the role of Han Solo, and “the opportunity to work with JJ [Abrams]”.

The director had some reassuring words regarding the film’s lightsaber duels earlier in the week, saying they would feel more “primitive and rougher" like the ones in the original trilogy rather than be about CGI and acrobatics like in the prequels.

While he has confidence in the film, Abrams said it was “horrifying” showing it to Disney execs and that he was “nervous beyond words”.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in UK cinemas on 17 December and US cinemas on 18 December.
