Francis & the Godfather is a scripted feature that'll detail what went on behind-the-scenes of the Mario Puzo adaptation starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Diane Keaton.
The screenplay, which appeared on the 2015 Black List (a compilation of the best scripts circling Hollywood), was written by Andrew Farotte and - according to Variety - features scenes of "Coppola joining the project t the casting of Pacino and Brando to dealings with the real-life New York mafia."
Coppola's epic won three Oscars - Best Picture, Best Actor (for Brando) and Best Adapted Screenplay - and is considered to be one of the greatest films of all time.
The hunt is now on for suitable actors to play the many actors who appeared in the masterpiece, also including James Caan, Robert Duvall, Talia Shire and John Cazale.
Robert De Niro, who played a younger incarnation of Brando's character Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II, heads up HBO Film The Wizard of Lies which focuses on the real-life story of disgraced stockbroker Bernie Madoff.
