Independence Day 2: Resurgence: New trailer sees an entire city dropped on London
Will Smith's character gets a shout-out
The Independence Day sequel Resurgence has dropped a second trailer, teasing an alien spaceship that has its own gravity.
The craft is seen pulling landmarks, buildings and aeroplanes into the sky, with Jeff Goldblum’s David Levinson noting: “What goes up must come down”.
It then dramatically dumps it all onto London, sending a skyscraper shuddering into the London Eye.
Mass destruction aside, the trailer also references Will Smith’s character, with Levinson telling his son Dylan Dubrow-Hiller that his dad was “the bravest man I’ve ever seen”.
The line might have been included to appease fans who were a little annoyed by Smith’s character being unceremoniously bumped off in a fictional news bulletin on the film’s website recently.
Liam Hemsworth, Vivica A Fox, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Judd Hirsch and Joey King join Goldblum in the Roland Emmerich-directed film, which opens in UK cinemas on 23 June and US cinemas on 24 June.
