Indiana Jones 5: Harrison Ford won't be replaced as Indy, says producer: 'We're not doing the Bond thing'

'But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton'

With an unfathomable amount of reboots current showing in cinemas, many have turned to Steven Spielberg to ask “When’s Indiana Jones coming back? Crystal Skull was awful, we need something new.”

The director previously hinted the franchise would be returning with Harrison Ford at the helm, but rumours have been circulating that a younger actor would take over as Indiana, many pointing to Chris Pratt as the perfect replacement.

Frank Marshall - who worked with Pratt on Jurassic World and produced all four Indiana Jones films - was asked directly by TotalFilm if the star could take over after Ford.

"There are a lot of rumours,” he said. “We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton.”

However, he went on to admit that they would “not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones… we have to figure this out.”

In Crystal Skull, Shia LaBeouf was seemingly set to take on the Indiana mantle, with one scene in particular where he picks up his father’s hat implying he would be the series lead actor.

LaBeouf’s role was not as well received as filmmakers would have liked, and that idea appears to have been scrapped.
