There has been quite a lot of controversy surrounding James Bond’s drink of choice in recent years. Instead of tgoing for a classic vodka martini, Daniel Craig’s 007 opted for a bottle of Heineken in Skyfall: a tie-in that cost an estimated £28 million.
To many fans relief, in Spectre Bond is no longer a lager drinker, returning to his routes as a martini drinker but with a twist.
According to The Guardian, the spy will be ditching his classic, straightforward martini for a dirty martini, combining vodka, dry vermouth, a muddled Sicilian green olive, and a measure of the olive’s brine.
Bond is said to order the drink when attending a soiree with Dr Medeleine Swann, played by french actress Lea Seydoux.
According to the source: “You can see olives in the glass. Bond is clearly going for a dirty [martini] to impress his dining companion – it’s all very sensual. Traditionalists might find it a bit strange, but the dirty is, in fact, a great choice for a licensed killer who can’t stop seducing women.”
Daniel Craig’s bond has gone through a number of drinks, his first - in Casino Royal - being a Vesper: Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet, shaken well and with a thin slice of lemon peel.
Since the release of that film, Gin consumption in the UK has been on the up with some sources attributing part of the rise to Bond’s ever changing drinking habits.
Spectre, also starring Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris, is due in UK cinemas on 26 October 2015.
