British actor James McAvoy is reportedly first in line to play the lead in a remake of cult 1994 movie The Crow.

The X-Men: First Class star, who is currently appearing in London's West End in Macbeth, is in talks to take on the role in a new adaptation of James O'Barr's comic, specialist horror site Bloody Disgusting reports.

The F.Javier Gutierrez-directed film telling the story of murder victim Eric Draven who rises from the dead to wreak revenge on his killers is also rumoured to involve Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum.

Brandon Lee, who starred in the original, famously died during filming when he was accidentally shot on set.
