Hollywood's female actors and directors have come together to form an organisation designed to produce media dedicated to the empowerment of women.

Named We Do It Together, the organisation's purpose is to eradicate the lack of substantial roles for females and the discrimination they face within the film industry.

The nonprofit company's advisors include Jessica Chastain, Juliette Binoche, Queen Latifah and Frieda Pinto, as well as Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke.

Chinese actor Zhang Ziyi, British filmmaker Amma Asante (Belle) and male director Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now) also sit on the advisory board, Deadline reports.

The group will look to raise capital from grants, corporate sponsors and individual donations so they can invest in the production of films, documentaries and TV shows that will aim to change the perception of female stereotypes.

Excitingly, the board will also collaborate on the projects they produce, the first of which will be announced at this year's Cannes Film Festival in May.
