Tiffany Haddish joins cast of The LEGO Movie 2

She'll join returning stars Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Channing Tatum, and Jonah Hill

Tiffany Haddish is joining the voice cast of The LEGO Movie 2 as a major new character.

According to Variety, she'll join returning stars Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks, who voice Master Builder Emmet Brickowoski and Wyldstyle, respectively. The sequel will also reintroduce its host of existing properties, with Will Arnett as Batman, Channing Tatum as Superman, and Jonah Hill as Green Lantern all set to make an appearance.

Though it was director Phil Lord and Chris Miller that helped propel what seemed on paper like a money-grabbing exercise into critical and box office success in 2014, it's Trolls' Mike Mitchell who will direct for a second outing; Lord and Miller remain as producers, while also having written a first draft of the script. Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Matt Fogel were hired for re-writes.

Though the first film ended with an inter-universe invasion from the DUPLO, there's no indication in which direction the sequel with head, and Haddish's character has been kept strictly under wraps.

The comedian's been busy, however, since her breakout role in Girl's Trip. She became the first black female stand-up to host Saturday Night Live and is set to star in The Temp, opposite Melissa McCarthy in The Kitchen, with Kevin Hart in Night School, and alongside Tracy Morgan on TBS' new series The Last OG. She's also currently developing Limited Partners with Paramount, in which she'll both star and serve as executive producer.

The LEGO Movie 2 is set to hit UK cinemas 8 February 2019.
