Lucy Hale says ‘sexually forward’ Fifty Shades of Grey audition ‘mortified’ her
Actor said she was too ‘naïve’ to fully understand the movie at the time
Lucy Hale has recalled her audition for Fifty Shades of Grey, saying it “scared the crap” out of her.
The actor, whose Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene was recently cancelled after one season, is next appearing in A Nice Girl Like You. The new film follows Hale's character, Lucy, decides to make a sex to-do list to become more adventurous in bed.
While speaking to Associated Press about the new movie, Hale reflected on a similar project she almost starred in, the 2015 erotic film Fifty Shades of Grey.
“I was very young,” the now-31-year-old said. “I forget… it had to have been, not 10 years ago, it was a while ago and I was mortified. It wasn't actual scenes from the movie, but it was a very sexually forward monologue and I didn't really even know what I was saying in the audition."
Hale added: "I was a little naive about it all, but yes, I did audition. I obviously didn't get the part, but it was good for me because it scared the crap out of me to do an audition like that.”
Hale was auditioning for the part of Anastasia Steele – a college senior who embarks on an affair with billionare businessman Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). The role ultimately went to Dakota Johnson.
A Nice Girl Like You is a romantic comedy that also stars Leonidas Gulaptis. It will be released in the UK on 17 July via VOD outlets.
