Netflix deny changing the Notebook ending

'We did not edit The Notebook'

Netflix has denied changing the ending of The Notebook.

Fans were outraged after the final scene from the classic 2004 romance was seemingly edited by the streaming service.

The Notebook, based on Nicolas Sparks’s 1996 novel, begins with an elderly man (James Garner) telling a fellow nursing home resident (Gena Rowlands) about a young couple – Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams) – falling in love.

As the film closes, we learn that Garner and Rowlands are older versions of Noah and Allie – though Rowlands’s Allie has dementia and had forgotten. The final scene sees the pair lying in bed together when a nurse walks in to discover that they have died in each others arms.

However, fans of the film discovered that the Netflix version does not have the nurse discovering they are dead, therefore leaving viewers on a more uplifting note as they just lie in bed together.

Responding to fan outcry on Twitter, the streamer wrote on Twitter: “Things you should know – we did not edit the notebook – an alternate version exists and was supplied to us – we are getting to the bottom of it asap – apparently some films have more than one ending?”
