Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: First image of Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as struggling cowboy actors

Leonardo DiCaprio has shared the first image from the set of Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in which he plays a struggling former Western TV actor and Brad Pitt his long-serving stunt double.

Posted on Instagram, the photo sees Pitt in a double denim costume, while DiCaprio (whose character's name is Rick Dalton) wears a very 60s/70s combination of brown suit trousers, mustard turtleneck and longline orange leather jacket.

The two fictional characters happen to live next door to Sharon Tate, one of Charles Manson's murder victims who will be played by Margot Robbie.

As has previously been reported, the ninth movie from Tarantino will see various characters wandering around Los Angeles, the Charles Manson murders serving as the backdrop to the story. The structure has been described as being akin to Pulp Fiction.

Other actors to have landed starring roles include Al Pacino, Burt Reynolds, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Luke Perry, and James Marsden.

Reynolds will reportedly play George Spahn, a nearly blind man who once rented his Los Angeles ranch to studios for Westerns, while Lewis will play the iconic actor Steve McQueen.

Fanning has been cast as Squeaky Fromme, a Manson follower who infamously attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford. Perry will play the unspecified character Scotty Lancer.

Emilie Hircsh – whose has been cast to some controversy – has also joined the cast as Hollywood hairstylist Jay Sebring, one of Sharon Tate’s victims. Clifton Collins Jr, Keith Jefferson and Nicholas Hammond have landed supporting roles, playing Ernesto The Mexican Vaquero, Land Pirate Keith, and director Sam Wanamaker, respectively.

The movie will be released by Sony, Tarantino’s first film not released by the Weinstein company.
