Trailer for Disney Pixar film Onward, starring Tom Holland and Chris Pratt

Pixar has dropped a trailer for its first original film since Coco.

The new release from the Disney animation studio is called Onward and will depict a “suburban fantasy world” in which technology has merged with magic. For example, this is the kind of universe where elves use mobile phones.

Marvel stars Tom Holland and Chris Pratt – Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Star-Lord, respectively – play elf siblings Ian and Barley, who embark on a quest to see how much magic is left in the world.

On directing duties this time around is Dan Scanlon whose previous Pixar credit is Monsters University.

“At Pixar, we try to create stories that come from some kind of personal truth,” Scanlon said in a statement. “This film was inspired by my own relationship with my brother.”

Other actors to provide their voices for roles in the film include Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer, who’s currently playing against type in creepy new horror film Ma.

Holland will next be seen reprising his role of Peter Parker in sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home, which follows on directly from Avengers: Endgame.

Pixar’s next film, Toy Story 4, reunites Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz. It’ll be released on 21 June.

Onward is expected to be released in the UK on 6 March.
