Sister Act remake on the way from the writers of Legally Blonde

Hallelujah, a remake of Whoopi Goldberg’s Sister Act is on the way.

Legally Blonde writers Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, whose other female-friendly credits include 10 Things I Hate About You and She’s the Man, have begun work on the follow-up to the 1992 musical film.

It is not known yet if Goldberg will be dusting down her habit to join the Disney remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 1992 original, which spawned a sequel just a year afterwards, starred Goldberg as a lounge bar singer who witnesses a mob crime and is placed in protective custody in a San Francisco convent.

Fans hope Whoopi Goldberg will return for the remake

The film saw Goldberg’s character teach the Catholic nuns to sing gospel, and coach the choir to perform a special re-written version of “My Guy” for an official visit from Pope John Paul II.

Starring Maggie Smith as Mother Superior, Sister Act was one of the most commercially successful comedies of the early Nineties, taking $231m at the box office worldwide.
