Star Wars 7: Carrie Fisher describes original cast members as 'a little melted' and vows to 'get Princess Leia right this time'

The 57-year old actress is set to reprise her 1977 role in JJ Abrams' new movie

Carrie Fisher has described her fellow original Star Wars cast members as looking “a little melted” on the set of Episode VIII – much to their delight, we’re sure.

The 57-year-old is set to reprise her role as Princess Leia for JJ Abrams’ next instalment in the hit sci-fi franchise.

Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill are also returning as Han Solo and Luke Skywalker respectively, almost four decades since the first film was released.

Fisher was just 19 when she dropped out of drama school to make Star Wars in 1977.

“We all look a little melted. It’s good to see other melted people,” Fisher said. “It is good to have us all in a room because it’s unique. I mean, I don’t suppose they have reunions for the Gone with the Wind gang.”

The US actress, who appeared at the Hay Festival in Wales over the weekend, hinted that her famous character will be “less British” in the new movie.

“I looked a little pretentious faking the accent,” she said. “It was sort of a viral accent – it came and went.”

Fisher also drew upon her iconic hairdo of two buns attached either side of her head. “That can never really be repeated without gales of laughter,” she said. “I’ve begged them to put the hair back on in grey and just catch me cooking with the hair, like Granny Leia.”

Plot, budget and title details are still unknown, but shooting on Episode VII has begun in Abu Dhabi before relocating to England’s Pinewood Studios.

Fans can expect to see the film in time for Christmas 2015, with new stars including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac.
