As the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes ever closer, fans are feverishly speculating about what to expect from the upcoming sequel.

Despite the Luke and Leia making appearances, along with some other classic characters, director Rian Johnson has confirmed one fan-favourite certainly won’t be returning: Lando Calrissian.

“No, and I don’t want fans to get their hopes up,” the writer-director told EW. “He’s not in the film and it was never really something that came up. I mean, I loved that character. It would have been fun to see him, but it’s just not something that ever really had a place in the story.”

For those who adore the space-smuggler, Donald Glover will appear as the character in the upcoming spin-off Solo: A Star Wars Story, which centres on Han Solo.

Meanwhile, Johnson has also confirmed the blockbuster will be two and a half hours long, making it the longest Star Wars film to date, beating Attack of the Clones by eight minutes.

The Last Jedi reaches UK cinemas 15 December.
