Star Wars might have blasted Carrie Fisher’s career into the stratosphere but that doesn’t mean she was a fan of every line in George Lucas’ script.

The US actress, now 59, played Princess Leia in the original 1977 movie but struggled to fully understand some of her lead character’s dialogue.

Fisher revealed the line she hated most while taking part in a Q&A event at the Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday, reciting it three times to emphasis just how dreadful it really was: “I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit.”

Fisher recites the line when begging Obi-Wan Kobi to help her in her “desperate hour”. She detested it so much that it inspired her to become a screenwriter, but not before she drew attention to just how bad it was by speaking it in a random British accent in the film.

Fisher was not the only one to criticise Lucas’ writing, with her Star Wars: A New Hope co-star Alec Guinness memorably writing in a letter at the time of filming: “New rubbish dialogue reaches me every other day on wadges of pink paper and none of it makes my character clear or even bearable.”
