The Girl on the Train trailer: Emily Blunt thrills in dark, dramatic teaser with soundtrack from Kanye West

Prepare to be left on the edge of your seat when The Girl on the Train reaches UK cinemas this autumn

Fans of thriller The Girl on the Train can expect dark, pulse-racing things from the upcoming movie.

Based on Paula Hawkins’ bestselling debut novel, the film stars Emily Blunt in the lead as the self-destructive Rachel, who becomes embroiled in a crime mystery when she spots something shocking from her morning commuter train.

Justin Theroux stars as Rachel’s ex-husband Tom, whose missing nanny Megan Hipwell (Haley Bennett) is at the centre of the case. Rachel’s struggles with alcoholism in the wake of a painful divorce mean she cannot remember the night Megan went missing, and she soon finds herself a suspect battling to clear her name. The problem is that nobody trusts a woman who regularly blacks out.

Judging by this first trailer, cinemagoers are in for a treat, albeit it a disturbing, shiver-inducing one, with director Tate Taylor recently promising fans “sex, infidelity, deception, obsession, more sex, a little bit of murder and plenty of cocktails”.

A sexy, slowed-down version of Kanye West’s “Heartless” provides the soundtrack, hinting at a moody tone similar to what we saw with 2014’s Gone Girl.

Blunt said earlier this year that shooting The Girl on the Train was “the most challenging thing” she’d ever done, so expect a gritty, intense performance from the Sicario star.

“I’m not the girl I used to be,” Rachel says in voiceover before a dramatic montage teases violence, blood, tears and sky-high emotions.

The Girl on the Train, also starring Rebecca Ferguson, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez and Lisa Kudrow, reaches UK cinemas on 7 October.
