Video: Ron Burgundy reads the news on real life US TV broadcast

Actor Will Ferrell appeared in character for the entire of a weekend local news bulletin

It may be the stuff of legend, but at the weekend Ron Burgundy did one of the two things he says God put him on earth to do: read the news.

As the co-anchor on local station KXMB in Bismarck, North Dakota, Burgundy made inappropriate comments about his colleagues’ appearance, weight and marital status, and spoke of his fondness for moustaches, all in his distinctive 1970s style.

Played by the actor Will Ferrell, he remained in character and on set for the full duration of the Saturday evening broadcast, and some credit should go to regular presenter Amber Schatz for keeping a straight face more or less throughout.

The appearance came as part of an extensive PR campaign ahead of the release of a sequel to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, stretching back to an appearance in character on Conan O’Brien’s talk show in March 2012 when Burgundy “played” jazz flute.

The new film, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, will be in cinemas from 18 December.
