Warcraft: The Beginning: worlds collide in epic new trailer for Duncan Jones' video game adaptation

"It has begun. War is coming."

Duncan Jones' cinematic take on one of gaming's most beloved franchises, Warcraft: The Beginning, has been fairly quiet of late in the anticipation stakes; or so it seemed ever since the first trailer's debut in November dropped to a fairly lukewarm reception.

The visuals are undeniably impressive, yet concerns floated around as to whether general audiences could really get on board with such a cartoonishly-realised universe; one that's all big armour, big weapons, and big orc heads.

A new TV spot has perhaps set out to address some of those concerns; attempting to put at its heart the grounded, emotional core of its interspecies tension between orc and man, as united in the friendship between human Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel) and Durotan (Toby Kebbell). The two must join forces to face off a fearsome horde of invading orcs when a portal between the two worlds opens and the fight for survival pushes both kingdoms to the brink of war.

Durotan certainly takes centre stage in this spot as he embarks on his own quest to save his people. It's an extremely promising display of its whole host of CGI characters, which saw production embark on the incredibly rare move of recording actors' motion capture on set.

The film, directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), also features Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster, Ben Schnetzer, Ruth Negga, Clancy Brown, Robert Kazinsky, Daniel Wu, and Paula Patton.

Warcraft: The Beginning will hit UK theatres 3 June.
