Zoolander 2 is happening because sequels are so hot right now
Sequels. So hot right now. Sequels.
It looks like the long-gestating Zoolander sequel has finally got the go-ahead, with the Mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino announcing that Zoolander 2 will shoot for 12 weeks in around Cinecitta Studios later this spring.
Marino said he had met with Ben Stiller, who will reprise his role of dim-witted male model Derek Zoolander.
The location news suggest Derek will be heading to international fashion weeks - Milan would have been a more obvious choice, though it's still possible Rome could be doubling for it.
Justin Theroux will co-write and direct, according to ComingSoon, while Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson are 'all-but-confirmed' to return as the nefarious Mugatu and hippe model Hansel.
Penelope Cruz, Jonah Hill and Cara Delevigne have all previously been rumoured to be in talks for the film.
Zoolander, which featured a cameo from David Bowie, only grossed $60 million at the box office worldwide, but became a favourite on DVD.
There are no end to sequels and reboots long after the fact being announced lately, with new Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park and Star Wars films on the way.
