"What the hell is wrong with that kid?" Martin Sheen's optometrist, Tom, laments about his estranged son, Dan (Emilio Estevez).
He trundles off to the golf course, but his chip shot is disrupted by a call informing him that Dan has perished in the Pyrenees, while on the first leg of the El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. Tom decides to walk the 800km route, alone, scattering his son's ashes along the way. His progress is disrupted by a host of stereotypes, with whom he ends up bonding. Mawkish, with gorgeous scenery.
