This Friday, The Runaways movie is released in the US, starring Twilight's Kristen Stewart as rocker Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as lead singer Cherie Currie. The release is accompanied by two records, a couple of books and an upcoming reunion on stage.

The film is based on Currie's 1989 memoir about her experience in the 1970s teen all-girl band, Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway, which reveals details the music business, and chronicles the rise and demise of the band. The book has been updated and published March 16.

The soundtrack album is released March 23, featuring Stewart and Fanning performing The Runaways' songs, "Cherry Bomb," "California Paradise," "Queens of Noise," and "Dead End Justice." In addition, the 14 tracks include classics from the era by Iggy and The Stooges, David Bowie, Sex Pistols, and proto-punk act, MC5 playing "It's a Man's Man's Man's World."

Joan Jett, who continues to tour, has asked her former bandmate from The Runaways, Cherie Currie, to join her on stage at a concert in the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa, California on July 29. Currie still performs, acts, and is one of the most prominent chain-saw carvers in the country. Other dates may be announced.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts also released a Greatest Hits album last week with her hits like "I Love Rock and Roll," and the "Cherry Bomb" track. In addition, on Friday the book, Joan Jett, written by designer Todd Oldham, is published by Ammo Books, A tribute to Jett, the book chronicles her career from The Runaways to today. It includes photos and ephemera from 30 years' worth of interviews with Jett and others.
