Letter: Age of travel
Sir: It is true, as Michael Atkinson says in his letter (28 June), that travelling to work gets more tiring the older you get. But it depends on the work you're travelling to.
Our volunteers travel to India to resuscitate dying bees, or to Nepal to teach shoemaking, or to Peru to develop weaving co-operatives. Most are in the 60- to 75-year-old range, and their work seems to rejuvenate rather than fatigue. When they come back they could eat the Northern Line for breakfast.
