Letter: In Brief
Sir: Dr Chris Dawson points out (letter, 19 March) that Jacques Santer in fact said that he considered himself "entierement blanchi" (completely cleared), rather than "whiter than white". While not wishing to question Dr Dawson's translation, I feel it is worth mentioning that in financial contexts blanchi means "laundered" - or perhaps, in this case, "taken to the cleaners".
