Sir: It is not only Oxford and Cambridge (letter, 11 August) - the five ancient Scottish Universities have awarded an MA as a first degree so for centuries. And given the dubious quality of the education provided by many of the newer institutions they will be well justified in continuing to differentiate their superior product.
