Sir: The abandonment of the Post Office sell-off means: continuation of an over -priced letter delivery service of indifferent quality; continued subsidy of rural dwellers by those in urban areas; a post office less able to compete with privatised rivals from home and abroad; a sure sign that the Government is not serious about the modernisation of Britain if it means challenging vested interests, in this case Communication Workers Union; more communication via the Internet - this letter is being sent you by e-mail at a fraction of the cost of a first-class stamp
