Sir: Now that playgroups, nurseries and child minders all come within the remit of Ofsted, may we anticipate the early appointment of cadres at street level to visit those women who prefer to keep their children at home, in order to persuade them of the benefit these childcare facilities, and to report them to the authorities if they fail to take advantage of them, so that government can ensure that each child becomes an effective unit of production by the time it reaches adulthood?
