Sir: The art critic Brian Sewell recently questioned the need for an pounds 8m expenditure on a Holocaust museum in Manchester.

One could not have expected such a spectacular riposte as came in the shape of Friday night's hate-filled bombing, demonstrating yet again, if one ever needed reminding, that not only must we never forget, but we must learn how to defeat the forces of evil.
