Sir: The poor turnout in the European election was because the British did not believe the European Parliament is important. The way to change this is to give the Parliament power of direct taxation to replace the contributions made by member states. As the American revolutionaries realised, there is a strong link between representation and taxation.
There would be other benefits: sleaze would be punished and the CAP reformed. But this may not be what the Eurocrats want.
