Anna of the North (Jonathan Vivaas Kise)

Anna of the North is a product of heartbreak, and the recovery that comes after.

Anna Lotterud was working in a shop in a small town near Oslo, Norway when an encounter with a stranger prompted her to book a flight to Australia and leave her life - and relationship - behind.

There she met Brady Daniell-Smith. Brady, who’d been struggling with his own relationships, and who encouraged her to find solace in songwriting - that collaboration became 'Anna of the North' - a thrilling brand of electro-pop that Norwegian artists seem to excel at.

We're premiering the video for their track "Someone" - the band say of the song: “We think almost everyone has woken up after a big night, instantly regretting something that happened. It’s about how easy it is to break your promises when you’ve had a couple of drinks.

"Going deeper, the song is about accepting that you’re only human and to learn how to forgive yourself for your own mistakes and accepting that sometimes we need someone to save us from repeating any old habits."

Q&A with Anna of the North

What are you listening to at the moment?

Anna: I'm listening to Tyler The Creators new stuff atm. I can't wait for the album. I also saw Tom Odell live the other day. He's insane.

Brady: LANKS, Childish Gambino, Caribou, HAIM

What are your plans for 2017?

Anna: We're gonna drop an album!!! So we'll be touring for a bit. We're going to Australia in august. Which i'm super excited about. That's where me and Brady met and this journey started.

What was the first gig

Anna: The first gig we ever played was in Oslo, Norway. Where we supported Seinabo Sey! I was so nervous I wanted to quit music.

Brady: I played in a Nu-Metal band when I was 13 at our high school disco. I still have the ticket folded up in my wallet.

Anna: I think the best gig must have been the one we did in Hyde Park recently

Brady: British Summer Time was pretty amazing!! The weather was beautiful and the crowd was amazing.

Lovers, the debut album from Anna of the North, is out on 8 September
