Florence and the Machine to replace Foo Fighters at Glastonbury 2015: Past headline acts that have stepped in last minute

Pulp, Basement Jaxx, Ash and Gorillaz have all replaced acts that were forced to cancel (or just didn't turn up)

Foo Fighters aren't the first big act to pull out of Glastonbury only to be replaced hours later by an equally big name.

While some fans may not agree that Florence + The Machine's ethereal sound is the right choice to step in for a legendary rock band, they may find themselves pleasantly surprised (think Pulp's replacement performance in 1995).

2010 – Gorillaz replaced U2

U2 were forced to pull out of their Friday night slot following Bono’s back surgery. Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz offered their services to festival organisers following the news, and were taken up on their offer.

2005 - Basement Jaxx stood in for Kylie

The Australian pop star had to pull out of her Sunday night headline slot after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Coldplay and Basement Jaxx both performed versions of her song “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”, which Minogue described later as “deeply moving”.

1997 -Ash replaced Steve Winwood

The bluesy British artist cancelled his headline slot leaving indie stalwarts Ash to become the youngest headliners in the festival’s history.

1995 - Pulp stood in for The Stone Roses

The Stones were forced to pull out after John Squire broke his collar bone in a biking accident, leaving Pulp to perform what has gone down as one of the best Glastonbury headliner slots of all time.

1993 - Lenny Kravitz replaced Red Hot Chili Peppers

Lenny Kravitz was on call when confirmed headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers failed to turn up.
