Glastonbury 2015 line-up: Florence + The Machine send best wishes to Dave Grohl after stepping up to replace Foo Fighters

Florence Welch and her band have sent their best wishes to the Foo Fighters and expressed their excitement about headlining Glastonbury for the first time in their place.

Line-up organiser Emily Eavis announced that Florence + The Machine would be promoted to the top of the Pyramid Stage bill on Friday 26 June after Foos frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg falling off stage in Sweden and was forced to pull out.

A photo of Welch and bandmate Isabella Summers with Grohl was posted on the group's official Instagram page last night with a caption paying tribute to "the nicest guy ever".

Here's what their message said in full: "We are so sorry to hear that the Foo Fighters have had to pull out of Glastonbury, we met Dave Grohl a few years back and he was the nicest guy ever.

"He let me and @isamachine hang out with him even though we were clearly very drunk and I had no eyebrows.

"We are honoured to have been asked to step in and we hope we will be able to give you as good a Friday night as the Foos would have.

"Sending all our love and well wishes to Dave. See you in the field!"

Eavis has said she is thrilled that FATM have agreed to undertake the prestigious job. "There was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence," she said in a statement.

"Every time she has played her she's done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I'm delighted she's agreed to step up to it - she's going to smash it!"

It is not the first time that an act has been drafted in to replace a headliner last minute - Pulp stood in for The Stone Roses in 1995 and Gorillaz offered their services when U2 pulled out in 2010.
