US duo Beach House continues to dominate the music blogosphere as its most popular act according the The Hype Machine. Other top acts on January 3 include British music outfit Gorillaz in second place and Brooklyn rock band Yeasayers in third. Reemerging in the top ten are Canadian band Crystal Castles and French DJs Daft Punk.
Crystal Castles is an electronic duo from Toronto known for chaotic live shows and a dark, melancholic sound. The duo's 2008 self-titled debut album was included among NME Magazine's Top 50 Albums of the Decade. Also, the band's 2010 collaboration with the Cure's Robert Smith on a remix of the 1984 single "Not In Love," originally by Platinum Blonde, reached best-of-2010 lists on dozens of blogs tracked by The Hype Machine.
French house duo Daft Punk has been a hot topic in the blogs after the December release of the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy, the sequel to 1982's Tron. Now the pair has reemerged in the top ten after a number of remixes from the album have hit the blogosphere, most notably a remix of "Derezzed" by Los Angeles-based DJ-and-producer twosome Breakdown. "The response to Breakdown's latest even inspired the cats over at Disney to do a new Tron: Legacy trailer, featuring none other than the remix," writes blogger The Get Downnn (thegetdownnn.wordpress.com). "Pretty cool stuff, eh?"
