With Daft Punk's soundtrack album for Tron: Legacy released yesterday, December 7, a music video for their track "Derezzed" was premiered on MTV and can now be watched online.
In a departure from most music videos for soundtrack songs, the footage does not include direct excerpts from the film. Instead it replicates a light cycle race on the grid with a "good guy" in blue and a "bad guy" in orange - as seen in Tron: Legacy.
The video opens with the two French house DJs entering Flynn's arcade and getting transported into the "Derezzed" game and entering the world of Tron. The duo's faces are not revealed, as usual. The song title refers to a digital death when the player of a gladiatorial game loses.
The visuals are reminiscent of elements from the original 1982 Tron, a film that Daft Punk has stated was an influence on the act. The cycles then morph into robotic raptors with jousters. Actress Olivia Wilde ( House, MD) from the film has a surprise cameo.
The sequel, Tron: Legacy, starring Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund and Michael Sheen, follows the son of a game designer who went missing 20 years ago when sucked into his virtual world. The film hits theaters December 17 in 3D.
