Abba reunion: Benny Anderson says band have 'nothing to prove' with new music

Swedish pop group recently announced two songs and confirmed their upcoming virtual tour

Abba don't have to prove anything with their upcoming new music, according to Benny Anderson.

Speaking to BBC News after Abba announced they have recorded two new songs, the Swedish musician suggested the group aren't feeling the pressure because they enjoyed making the new songs.

"I don't feel that we have to prove anything," he said. "I don't feel we have to think about, 'Oh what if it was better before?'

"Maybe it was, but we can't care about that. We do it because we think it was a good thing to do. We enjoyed it very much. We'll see. I hope you like them."

He revealed the vocals on both songs have been recorded but not mixed yet, but he thinks they're "pretty good".

Anderson explained the songs were created while he was in the studio with Bjorn Ulvaeus, working on a project where Abba will tour as avatars.

"We said, 'Hmm, maybe we should try and write a couple of songs, ask the ladies if they want to come and sing'," he said. "And they said, 'Yeah, absolutely.' So it was just, out of pure joy I'd say."

Abba fans rejoiced all over the world last week when the Swedish pop group announced their first new music in 35 years.

In a post on their official Instagram page the band said it had been an "extremely joyful experience" recording together again. The virtual "Abbatar" tour is expected for 2019 or 2020.
