Adele’s new album - believed to be titled 25 - is not due till November, but already the singer has cryptically treated fans to a snippet of a new song - her first since Skyfall.

Mid-way through Sunday night’s X-Factor, during an advert break, the 30-second clip was aired. No information was shown, just a black background on which lyrics appeared while a voice - widely believed to be Adele’s - sung over sparse piano chords.

The lyrics read: “Hello, it’s me / I was wondering if after all these years, you’d like to meet to go over everything. They say that time’s supposed to heal ya but I ain’t done much healing…”

Adele has yet to confirm or deny if the X Factor clip is her.

Her last album, 21, was released in January 2011, the only new music since has been her Bond theme song, Skyfall. Adele has sold over 30 million copies of 21 worldwide, while her debut, 19, has sold 7 million.

The London-born singer grew in international fame after the release of her single “Rolling in the Deep”, which was soon followed by hits “Someone Like You” and “Set Fire to the Rain”.

Artists said to have collaborated with her on the as-yet-untitled new album include Damon Albarn, Danger Mouse and Tobias Jesso Jr.
