Arcade Fire fans had better keep an eye on their mobile phones, judging by the indie band’s recent stage antics.

The “No Cars Go” singers were performing in Los Angeles last Friday when they began acting out “Been Caught Stealing” by Jane’s Addiction while performing their own take on the song.

Frontman Win Butler, wearing an over-sized robber’s mask, leaned down to ‘steal’ a handful of phones from the crowd. Strangely enough, fans seemed more than willing to hand over their personal items, which Butler piled in a heap on the floor by his microphone stand for all of 30 seconds.

The phones were returned to their owners while the band broke into a rendition of Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle”.

Arcade Fire are sticking to their promise to cover local artists throughout their Reflektor tour. They played Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Hey Tonight” at the same venue the night before and have in the past covered INXS, Echo and the Bunnymen and The Smiths.

The band continue their North American tour throughout August, playing Seattle, Calgary, Washington DC, Boston, Brooklyn and Chicago, before returning for a homecoming gig in Montreal.

Arcade Fire headlined Glastonbury Festival in June alongside Metallica and Kasabian.

The sextet attracted attention earlier this year by casting Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield as a trans woman in their music video for “We Exist”.
