Brendon Urie tells Trump to stop using Panic! At The Disco songs at election rallies

Singer Brendon Urie has told Donald Trump to stop using Panic! At The Disco’s music in his 2020 election campaign.

After Trump walked out on stage to the 2018 PATD song “High Hopes” at a campaign rally in Phoenix, Arizona, Urie – who has fronted the pop-rock band since 2004 – criticised the president in a tweet shared in the early hours of Wednesday (24 June) morning.

“Dear Trump Campaign,” Urie wrote. “F*** you. You’re not invited. Stop playing my song. No thanks, Brendon Urie, Panic! At The Disco & company.”

In a second tweet addressed to “everyone else”, Urie linked to a voter registration charity website.

He tweeted: “Donald Trump represents nothing we stand for. The highest hope we have is voting this monster out in November. Please do your part.”

Earlier this week, the family of the late Tom Petty also fought against Trump’s use of Petty’s 1989 song “I Won’t Back Down” on the campaign trail.

In a statement, the family said Trump’s campaign “leaves too many Americans and common sense behind”.

“Both the late Tom Petty and his family firmly stand against racism and discrimination of any kind,” they continued. “Tom Petty would never want a song of his used for a campaign of hate. He liked to bring people together.”

Last year, Queen also sought to stop Trump from using “We Will Rock You” in a campaign advert.
