Chris Brown enters rehab for anger issues

The singer's decision to enter a rehabilitation centre comes days after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a man

Chris Brown has entered a rehabilitation centre for anger issues following his arrest for allegedly punching a man in the face.

A representative for the singer said: “Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility. His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behaviour, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."

Mark Geragos, Brown’s lawyer, said the singer “decided he wanted to take some time off and do some introspection”.

Geragos added Brown’s decision to enter rehab was not an acknowledgement of wrongdoing in the assault case.

The “Don’t Wake Me Up” singer tweeted last night: “In order to go where u have never gone u have to be willing to go where u never been!!!”

Brown and his bodyguard were released from custody on Monday following their arrest for allegedly punching 20-year-old Parker Adams in the face at a nightclub in Washington DC.

Adams told police he had tried to push his way into a picture Brown was taking with a woman and her friend earlier in the evening.

The police report states the singer said: “I’m not down with that gay shit. I feel like boxing.”

Brown denied punching Adams, and Hollosy said he intervened when Adams tried to get on Brown’s tour bus.

The pair were initially charged with a felony assault, which was reduced to a misdemeanour.

Both Brown and his bodyguard Christopher Hollossy will face a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a $1,000 (£620) fine if they are found guilty.

The singer and his bodyguard were released from custody on Monday and are due to stand trial on 25 November.

Brown is still on a five year probation for attacking his ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 before the Grammy Music Awards.

His probation was revoked over the summer after he was charged with a hit-and-run traffic accident in Los Angeles. It was later reinstated after the judge was satisfied he and the driver had reached an agreement over the case.

In January, it was claimed he was involved in a fight with singer Frank Ocean over a car parking space outside a Hollywood recording studio.

At the time, detectives said Brown was under suspicion for punching the victim but the case was dropped after Ocean decided not to press charges.

His new album, X, is due out in December.
